BERCHTESGADENER LAND

The district of Berchtesgadener Land is located in Germany and lies directly behind the national border, which also runs through Großgmain. It belongs to the Euregio Salzburg - Traunstein - Berchtesgadener Land. There are three towns in the Berchtesgadener Land, which are also in close proximity to Großgmain. These are Bad Reichenhall, Freilassing and Laufen. The Berchtesgadener Land is especially known for its natural beauty and the associated excursion destinations. This includes the Berchtesgadener Land National Park, which is the only alpine national park in Germany. It invites you to go hiking or skiing in summer and winter. Of course the Königssee is a special highlight as part of the national park. The 8 km long lake is not only very beautiful, but it is also the only fjord-like lake in all of Central Europe. The landmark of the district is the Watzmann with a height of 2.713 m. Not only hikers are enthusiastic about the so-called 'Schicksalsberg'. The Watzmann, the longest climbing wall in the Eastern Alps, is also a special attraction for climbing enthusiasts. The Rupertustherme in Bad Reichenhall with its saltwater pool and large sauna area offers special relaxation for the special connoisseurs. The district of Berchtesgaden also has a lot to offer culturally. Particularly worth seeing is, among other things, the salt mine Berchtesgaden, which invites the visitors to experience the salt mining underground themselves. The old salt works in Bad Reichenhall also plays an important role in connection with salt. Visitors can learn more interesting details about the role of salt and salt mining in the Salt Museum. The Lokwelt in Freilassing also invites guests from all over the world to immerse themselves in the world of railroads. In the old terminus station of Freilassing, this interesting museum has been lovingly decorated. Culturally Bad Reichenhall has a lot to offer and besides a festival of classical music it also hosts many concerts and cultural events every summer.
